Waitangi Day commemorates the day the Maoris signed the treaty of Waitangi with the British Crown that granted them equal rights, acknowledging their ownership of land and property and an agreement that established a British Governor. Waitangi Day 2026will be celebrated on the 6th of February.

South Canterbury Anniversary 2026 is a public holiday on the fourth Monday of September. It is a public holiday held yearly on the second Friday next the first Tuesday of November in New Zealand's Canterbury Region of the South Island. It honors the founding of the Canterbury Region, as well as events are held across it, but mainly celebrations occur in Christchurch.
